Women constitute more than half of the population of Pakistan but still she is submissive and left behind in many fields by particular policies and mentalities. Despite sacrificial participation of women in the every walk of life, they remained ignored. Gender discrimination is the basic cause of this phenomenon.
The process of gender discrimination and division of responsibility begins from childhood. The girl child is deprived of her right to education. Her right to make decision, her right to freedom of speech, so much so to say sacrificing her space in her own house. Women all in all are looked upon as an inferior gender that is good for nothing.
Girls are normally given trivial tasks to earn fewer bucks rather than giving an opportunity to acquire education. As a domestic worker she is also required to look after younger siblings and do domestic work to help her mother. She is often held responsible for all domestic tasks but is kept far away from participation in decision making.
But the world has changed. It feels good to see how women have evolved over the time. They are aware of their right and responsibilities in the society. It is not news to know anymore that even in the much neglected and subservient society like Pakistan women represent in almost every field of life and in some cases they have superseded men in several fields. When it comes to speak about revolution; from Benazir Bhutto Shaheed to Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, from Aafia Siddiqui to Malala Yousuf Zai women have made reforms and stood for their rights.
On this special day, celebrate life. Take a break from your busy schedule. Let your hair down, have fun and do what your heart says. Because today is YOUR day. Have a great Women’s Day!
